Thank you all for supporting DVA through our 2011-12 Inaugural Season. We are proud to announce our new season rightfully entitled DVA SEASON 2.0. We chose this "Mission Impossible style" title because three years ago the thought of having one full season seemed impossible. Now we begin number two. This season will continue our commitment to emerging and established writers, directors and actors. Since original musicals are what we do best, we also chose to open and close our season with shows that have blown previous audiences away. DVA is committed to bringing culturally diverse musicals and dramas to the DFW area. Join us for DVA SEASON 2.0! Season tickets go on sale August 5th!!

As we continue our journey, we have relocated to a new home. Our very first production, Diaries of a Barefoot Diva, was produced at the Fort Worth Community Arts Center in 2008. So we return to where it all began. Our new season will be produced there, and we look forward to seeing all of you!

This show, Simply Etta, is our tribute to iconic singer Etta James. It features the outstanding actress Sheran Goodspeed Keyton as Etta James and long time music collaborator Joe Rogers on piano. The stories you will hear are the words of Etta James, taken directly from her autobiography, the liner notes of her albums, and online transcripts from interviews. By using Etta James’ own words and songs, Sheran creates a vivid portrait of one of the most amazing singers in modern music.

The iconic Etta James crosses all musical genres: blues, jazz, rock, r&b, even gospel.  Early in 2010, tragic stories began circulating about Miss James’ health: that she suffered from dementia or Alzheimer’s and had cancelled all public appearances.  This show begins during that time in the midst of her blurred state of mind, and flashes back to moments of the sheer brilliance that only a talent of such magnitude could bring!

“Keyton is one of Dallas' reigning musical theater divas, with a cra-mazing voice
that's always on the verge of telling you she's not going, no, no, no, no, no. She is
a marvelous facsimile of Etta James, echoing her phrasing, deep-throated soul and
bone-rattling power. She can be riveting at the storytelling, too. Simply Etta is
simply terrific.”
~Elaine Liner – The Dallas Observer

“Keyton has enough strength to launch the space shuttle. She has a voice so big, it
not only fills the small space of Tuckers’ Blues in Deep Ellum, it reverberates
until you’d swear she’s singing to you in stereo. And with Simply Etta, the lady
also starts it and carries it through.”
~Arnold Wayne Jones – The Dallas Voice

“From the moment that Sheran Goodspeed Keyton first opens her mouth, this
audience knows we won't be disappointed. Her confident swagger and her
phenomenal singing voice grabs our attention and our admiration right from the
start. Better yet, this seasoned performer kept the audience in her grip,
making us laugh along with her, cry along with her, and even sing along with
her.”
~Kristopher A. Harrison – The Column Online

The underlying group-friendship among all six women is prominent throughout the drama.

DVA revives this 2009 hit, to close out its second season. Sam Shade: A Detective Musical is an original musical with script, music and lyrics by Joe Rogers. Directed by Sheran Goodspeed Keyton, this farce is based on the classic novels The Invisible Man by H.G. Wells and The Maltese Falcon by Dashiell Hammett. Taking its cues from film-noir, this musical’s humor and style stem from the classic movies of the 1940s and 50s. All the players are present on the set of a new movie being filmed but everything seems to be going wrong. Can detective Sam Shade figure out who is to blame before it’s too late? With silly antics and witty dialogue, this musical will keep you holding onto the edge of your seat until the very last scene.

The show will take place at Fort Worth Community Arts Center, 1300 Gendy Street, Fort Worth, TX 76107. Performances are Friday through Sunday. August 23, 24, 30, and 31, 2013 at 8pm. August 24, 25, 31, and September 01, 2013 at 3pm.  Ticket prices are $15 for matinees, and $20 for evening performances.
